Expected Equipment Costs for Survey
Common to Category 2C and 2D
Initial Survey and Yearly Inspections
The boat fabricator will have to submit the plans to the port authority
and have inspections as the vessel is built. The initial survey will cost
aboyt $750 and a yearly inspection will cost about $300.
Flares
A kit consisting of 1 orange, 2 red and 3 rocket flares
costs $112 and will need to be replaced every 3 years.
VHF Marine Radio
A marine VHF transceiver costs approximately $400 plus a $40 annual licence fee.
Life Buoy
Our existing life buoys will have to have the boats names painted on them
and an approved light buoy fitted for about $80. The standard D batteries
have to be changed yearly.
Additional Equipment for Category 2C
Life raft
A coastal life raft for the full crew complement (8) costs approximately
$2815, plus $128 for a fixing kit and $92 for a hydrostatic release. The
life raft must be inspected and repacked each year at a cost of $215, plus
the cost of expired equipment. The flares must be replaced every 3 years
($100), the hydrostatic release every 2 years ($92) and the rations every
4 years ($50).
Lights on Life Jackets
The life jackets we currently have are suitable for 2C if we fit them with
water activated lights at $24 each. They have a 5 year life.
EPIRB
An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon costs
approximately $250. Depending on the brand, alkaline batteries have to be
replaced every 2 years, or lithium batteries every 5 years.
Sea Anchor
A sea anchor with line must be fitted at a cost of approximately $150.
